Hello,
I'm in the brainstorming stages of creating a unique line of chakra jewellry, with an emphasis on using tumbled crystals/beads to balance the root chakra ;) . I'd like to know what patterns/styles of beading could be worn comfortably on/close to the genitals, what materials would be best to use, etc. I'd like to create something that is functional and asthetically pleasing for both men and women. Feel free to pm me any and all suggestions.

Infinite thanks and blessings!
Petra :)

Hi what is the best place on line to buy cabochons and backing material for cabochons? I noticed on another thread someone mentioned that FMG is a good place to buy crystal and glass beads but not so good for semi precious stones. I am looking for cabachons in semi precious stone of all different sizes and shapes but want the quality to be good. I don't mind dyed stones or heated stones as long as the seller informs you of the treatments. And any advice on backing material would be helpful.

Hi, I am new to beading and none of my friends bead.

I am looking for anyone that beads and would like to go to bead shows aroung Los Angeles. One is coming up on December 1st. I have never been to one and all though I am sure I can manage alone I thought it would be a nice way to make a new friend.

what are the best companies to purchase sterling, bali, and thai silver findings and beads from? I've checked out fire mountain gems, you and me silver, and sweet creek. But the problem is I don't really know what to compare all the pricing to. What is a reasonable wholesale price for findings like jump rings, headpins, and crimp beads?

Hi Everyone,
Do you happen to have any used beading books or beginner boards/supplies tucked away that you don't use anymore? I am a beginner beader, (see my post on erotic jewelry), and could use some help getting started with unusual designs and basic techniques . I can do simple pendulum readings (yes/no, multiple-choice questions), and would be more than happy to offer readings to anyone willing to help me out with a book/needle/elastic/etc.

Thank you kindly, and Love and Light to you all! :)

They would be frighfully expensive, I know, but gold plate & galvanized coatings tend to rub off.

I am working on a project and will need a selection of milagros. Does anyone have any ideas of where I can find some nice, inexpensive base metal milagros. I've found some but they were about $1.00 each and that is too high a price for what I need.

how to do you determine your prices for your jewelry?

Hi all,

I have been beading for a very long time, but recently I was asked by a store that sells bras mostly for breast cancer patients to create some jewelry for them to sell in their store. They normally order the breast cancer awareness jewely from somewhere else, but decided they wanted hand-made one of a kind pieces. I have never sold my jewelry before mostly since once I make a piece for someone else I fall in love with it and can't part with it. So now I will be making mostly beaded bracelts and such for breast cancer awareness.

Since I have never sold my jewelry before I have no idea how to come up with pricing. How do you all come up with your pricing and what do you reccomend is a reasonable price for beaded bracelets, earrings, and necklaces?

Thanks!
Jenny

Anyone else obsessively collect vintage beads, buttons, findings, sequins. I can't seem to stay away from them. I was going through my "horde" tonight picking out strands to go with a handmade collage pendant and realized that I have so many beads I could never part with. The uniqueness and beauty of them. Would I ever find them again?............. *sigh* When I have a studio I'll make a beaded tapestry with them or something, they look so forlorn sitting in the box.

Selling my Bead Collection!

I have a huge collection of assorted beads that I have gathered over the years to feed my jewelry making hobby. But now they mostly sit in plastic baggies and containers in my closet.

It includes glass, plastic, vintage, seed beads, semi-precious stones (amethyst, citrine, sugalite), metal, fresh water pearls (including some biwa pearls), precious stones (rubies, saphires, emeralds), and so much more!

Depending on what you are willing to pay, and how much you want to take off my hands, I am willing to give you an AMAZING price! On the ad on craigslist I am asking about $1500 dollars for the whole kit n kaboodle.

Should you be interested in only glass beads, only semi precious stones, etc..I would be willing to give you a price for each individual part of the collection.

These beads have cost me MANY THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS! They are worth 20 times what I am selling them for!

I have posted photos of some of the collection on Kodak easyshare gallery. There are no repeat photos of the same strand, and there are only photos of part of the collection.

If you want to see them, then send me a message on tribe with your email address, and I will send you a link that allows you to view the photos without having an account with the website.

I would prefer to sell the entire collection for a really good price to someone who loves beads, and who will really use them.

I look forward to hearing from you!

Thanks!

Mixteco Indigena Community Organizing PRoject

I wanted to let you all know that i am currently collecting arts and crafts items to be donated for an organization called Mixteco/Indigena Community Organizing project, Whose mission is to provide aid to and encouratge thee empowerment of the Oaxacan Immigrant in Ventura county. The focal point of MICOP's work is monthly community meetinngs designed to build a sence of community and self sufficiency among Ventura Countys Mixtec population, while helping Mixtecs access healthcare and educational and social services. Each meeting features an educational presentation (very important bec. since they speak their own dialect mixteco, the meetings conducted in Mixteco/Español), in addidtion Food, clothing, disposable daipers and health care items to approx 15o families per month. I VOLUNTEER AT THESE MONTHLY MEETINGS, and am in charge of the children's activity. So far, all the materials i have, I've paid for from my own pocket. Not only do i need MORE scissors, glue, paper, crayons, sequins, googly eyes, fabric BEADS, whatever! (new or used i don't care) or if you are addicted to the 99Cent stor if you buy me ONE craft item each time you go. If you want to make a cash contribution, i can give you the info of the Non profit Org, just send me your address. In addition to any craft items you are willing to part with that have lain unused and neglected for years let me know. I could really use them. Before too long, i'll have some photos of the kids and I, crafting away. And just a note, these meetings are more important than ever, because the farm workers are really feeling it right now, bec of that killing frost we had, they are all out of work! it's a terribly sad situation, and i get to take these kids minds off of things for a split second. Not only that, but the parents are allways all clustered around the bead activity. I've even held a baby while the entire family, Mom, Dad and the two older kids are beading. The Oaxacan have some real talent for crafts, beading, ceramics, and weaving and it's a really fun time watching what they do, but i am running out of everything! Please help!

beading a stethoscope - where to begin?

so i'm a total beginner at the beadworking thing, and i have these stethoscopes that i want to decorate.

there are some gorgeous examples out there:

http://members.tripod.com/beadnik/bwork/newsteth.jpg

http://www.swcoloradowildflowers.com/bettys_beading_7.htm

http://www.neokistomi.com/stethclose407.jpg

i don't need to get too elaborate with patterns or motifs, though a couple of colours would be nice.
how would i go about creating something like this? are there how-to books or websites you would recommend?

thanks in advance!

I'm pretty new to Tribe, and have mostly been lurking in all the groups that have captured my interest. I've been beading for 26 years, and will probably bead for the rest of my days, and my main interest in being part of all these tribes, is to share, and meet like-minded people.

I've been on many 'beady' forums, and have found that some of them can get a little 'catty', however, I get a really cool vibe from the folks I've encountered here so far.

I've also noticed quite a few of you in here are also in some of the belly dance oriented tribes that I belong to: Way too COOL! So, I'm a belly-dancing beady nut, who hopes to make lots of new friends.

A great day to all.

Just bought myself a little bottle of liver of sulphur but I have no clue how to use it! There's nothin' on the bottle and nothing on the maid o' metal website. I've heard you need to heat it - how? Also heard you need to heat your piece - micro torch okay, or is that too much heat? Diluted or straight up? Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Hi!

Curious if anybody has any techniques for blackening (tarnishing) silver. I know there's a liver of sulphur compound, but I hear that leaves you with a dead black result. Does anybody have any experience, tips, suggestions, or alternate materials to leave a slightly less than black finish?

Many thanks!

MOrano, of course (that would be as early as possible, because I hear Venice in summer is beautiful, but smelly) and see if I can see some of the small glass works in Czech Republic. And maybe Swarovski. Has anyone done anything like this? Any advice?

Ok, so I was at the bead store and looking for my thread. The bead store owner almost shunned me for doing my right-angle weave with crystal bicones and nymo. She swears that the crystals will cut the thread, which is something that hasn't happened to me. I sometimes wonder if she is a little loopy, so does anyone else have the problem with the crystals cutting the thread? It isn't like they are constantly rubbing against the thread.

I started doing this when I read it in a book. According to the shop owner, all of those books are wrong. Who do I listen to?

So, I am pretty sure my daughter is soon to become engaged. I am looking (unsuccessfully) for some tairapatterns. She thought (the last tiome we discussed plans and bought pattersn for the someday wedding dress--before she has a steady boyfriend..that she wanted simple..it is a ren dress..fitted bodice, full skirt.

She wants a simple tiara..I ma not having much luck at finding anything simple to pattern after.

Any help would be appreciated. If I could show her e few, she could tell me how she want them different so I have time to experiment (and sell the ones she doesn't want-I expect it may take a few tries to get the "perfect one"-its ok..weddings should be perfect.) yeah, I am the sappy mom type.

Hello I am a new member of this tribe as well as tribe.net. I live in the Potrero Hill neighborhood of San Francisco with my boyfriend of the last 8 years. I love to do beadwork as a hobby, giving my creations to friends and those dear to me. I'd love to meet other beaders in the Bay Area to share ideas and finds. My last big find-http://www.shipwreckbeads.com/. This site has huge crystal beads-my last purchase included 20mm crystal aurora borealis beads which I used in a necklace for a friend and one for myself! I'd love to hear about the finds of other memebers.

New to the group (and tribe) but not to beadwork! I'm glad to have found you, this is a wonderful way to share ideas. I've posted some pics of my pieces in my album (mostly turquoise, since that's what my customers have requested) but haven't gotten around to reading how to post to tribe discussions, so if you're curious, please feel free to take a peak.

I look forward to seeing the great things you guys have and will come up with.

beading a box clasp?

hi!

I have this interesting box clasp with a removable metal mesh-like top piece that is supposed to be beaded. i have never tried to do this kind of work before and am wondering if anyone has any tips? should you use metal pins? or wire and crimps? it seems there is NOT a lot of room to have a lot of wiring or crimps on the back side of the mesh, since it all fits back together in a neat little package when you are done. and when you are done, does it look stupid or gaudy, too ginormous, or just plain cheezy?

help!
>> confused but not intimidated<<

I'd like to know what everyone's favorite online bead and findings supply company is.
One of mine is Sunshine Discount Crafts in Florida, www.sunshinecrafts.com.
Their website is HORRIBLE, and it will take one forever in the beginning to find stuff, as they seem to have slightly different names and categories.
But their prices are awesome, especially for all kinds of beads like Czech, painted wooden, tribal, cameos.
And they ship superfast!

Need Help with stringing old/tribal beads

Hi! I've got a decent sized bead collection and I'm finding that my major failing is that I can't get these things strung up. I don't have large numbers of a lot of types, usually only one or two of each kind.

It seems like I've got no problem doing something symmetrical, but when I'm dealing with a chevron, some african nueva cadiz and afghani silver... I just can't even get started.

I'd really like to wear more of my beads, so I'm hoping someone has suggestions or references on stringing up mismatched old beads. Thanks!

i am making beaded mandalas and i had found some info on what to use to stiffen them so they hold their shape and can be hung up better, but i think i may have lost the info. i think people had said regular white glue and had mentioned various starches but i dont remember. Plus if you know of any that you can say (at least somewhat) for sure that it wont make my beads "bleed" their colors that would be good.

thanks for any info

I am new to this tribe and just looked at the photo page, WOW! What a beautiful, varied, creative group of work. I bought some beads at the Tucson bead show, and want to make a necklace and a pair of earings. I am amazed at the pearl beads, how do you do those? I did glassblowing for a school project, but nothing like this.

First attempt at seed beading

So, I posted a pic of my first seed beading attempt. I got the design from 'Step-by-Step Beads', but I switched out the main beads with some glass one's I made. I have been lampworking for a while now, but this was the first time I tried to make a full piece of jewelry.

I usually give my lampworked beads to a friend to place in a finished piece.

I gave this piece to my girlfriend who likes gaudy jewelry lol.

Any Beaders in New Jersey?

We've got a decent number of bead stores, a couple that give classes, but nothing that's really convenient to me. I can go to NY, but that's something I plan for a full-day trip to visit as many stores as I can, and that's where the nearest bead guild is. Thought it might be nice to connect to someone in the Essex County vicinity. . .

I love sharing these with a passion and I hope to be able to reach out to more souls
Love is a beautiful thing.

Dragonfly workshop

I'm currently touring California teaching a workshop that shows individuals how to bead dragonflies. While doing so... participants answer questions and read quotes that help them gain insight and a clear vision to find direction. For more info visit: http://www.solomax.com/dflys.html

I'm in Sacramento at Horse Cow Arts, a Burner communal creative living space, after a workshop here with 8 ladies that was very successful. I'll be in San Francisco until Thanksgiving, then LA for a couple weeks, then up to Southern Utah, and down through AZ, so if you'd like to host a workshop for yourself and friends, please give a call: 818-331-9707 or email max@solomax.com

I have an amazing place to do workshops in Malibu if you live in the area... on beautiful land owned by the family of Frank Lloyd Wright, 2000ft looking over the ocean, so if you know teachers or home-schoolers who would be interested... or any group, please let them or me know.

The workshop is $20 per person. Or you can do it online too, for just $10... see: http://www.solomax.com/step-by-step.html

Have fun!

I live in the Raleigh Hills area. I broke my leg in August and used my down time to make Amulet bags. I would like to find an avenue to sell them. Have thought about E-bay but do not know how to do that, post an article that is. I am interested in learning loom painting with beads and would also like to learn how to make beads. Would enjoy meeting others with the same addiction!

Hello...new member here. Question about jewelry torches..

Hi there,

I'm interested in learning how to solder silver and understand that you can use a jewelry torch for this.

Does anyone have any recommendations on where I can get a good one in the Bay area?

Thanks!

Is my newest drive. I have seen some really amazing stuff lately, and I am obsessed. I've done loomwork, peyote stitch, rosettes, brick-stick, daisy chain, and all that stuff but now i want to wrap rocks/gems/whatever. Who can recommend a good book for wire wrapping cabochons and crystals and such? Anyone, anyone?

Need 4mm holes

Hi Folks,

I have a special use for beads with holes that are just over 4 mm, anywhere from 4.1 up to as large as 4.9 mm. 4.2 to 4.3 is perfect. The same as, or very slightly larger than, a "pony" or crow bead hole.

I am mostly interested in solid sterling (or other metal), bone, horn, semi-precious stone beads of all kinds, cloisonne, perhaps some glass if it is really tough, Bali beads if no sharp edges. Very small rings, especially inlaid ones, work great.

Any ideas? Sources?

Thanks,
Grandma

Anyone know of a good stitch to make beaded donuts with delicas? My ambition was to use peyote stitch, but it's just not flexible enough-but in theory, that's the look I'm after.

What's your beading addiction?

What kind of beadwork do you do? I do mostly beadweaving, but get on stringing kicks sometimes when I don't have a lot of patience and want some instant gratification. I have tried wirework without a great deal of success, though maybe one day I'll do more of it. The main problem is finding a good source of the wire!

I like beadweaving for precisely the reason that most people who avoid it don't... it takes a long time to finish and it's relatively repetative (once I've got the pattern going), so I can chill out and meditate while I'm working on a piece.

So what kind of work do you do and why do you do it?

newly discovered source of pearls and stone beads

I actually can't believe the prices on this site. They're not the fastest shippers in the world, but you simply can't beat the prices on their specials and closeouts pages. http://www.treasureislandpearls.com/

We're talking closeout gemstone strands for $1.95-4.95, pearl strands in the "Specials" section for $3-6. These are for 16" strands! The same strands that people on ebay and elsewhere are charging $15-20 for. Even their regular prices are pretty darn reasonable.

I have no affiliation with this site. I just ran across it while looking for inexpensive but nice freshwater pearl strands and literally couldn't believe my luck, so I thought I'd pass on the link.

Happy beading :)

i was wondering what kind of ideas you guys have for doing other craft projects with beads than putting string through them?
2 that i can think of are 1) beads in collage 2) i glued beads on cardboard paper to aluminum cans as pencil holder

hi all! im new in these parts. my name is missa and i have an obsession with peyote stitch. flat, tubular, circular and freeform, i have the peyote stitch itch. alot of my projects are just me fooling around to have something to do with my hands rather than feel bored and induce that slightly meditative wonderous state...

started out stringing as a yungin' and then knotting with hemp and leather. eventually i would like to learn lampworking and some more advanced techs, but for now im satisfied with my self taught peyote.

now for a question for all of you...a good source for some smallish seeds in natural materials (copper, wood, bone, etc.) looking for maybe some 10/0 to 6/0 or 8/0 sizes...
i need them for a large project with yellow and green turquoise faceted beads and a pretty large sponge coral...

thanks in advance for your help

love and hugs
missa
